ABOUT SECURITY

The document shown here is over 35 years old, containing revisions up to 1970. The content is virtually obsolete and it has no bearing on current operations or any operations in the recent past. The entire contents can be had from the government under the freedom of information act. (or you can browse old bookstores and get a copy for a couple bucks). While never classified, CTO3&2 was originally marked "FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY." To put this in perspective for my security concious shipmates, consider that even information classified CONFIDENTIAL is usually declassified in less than 35 years. This, was never even that sensitive.

ORGANIZATION OF THE PAGES

The original document has preface pages i through iv, content pages 1 through 281 and of course, front and back covers. You can "leaf" through every page using the "previous" and "next" buttons, or you can go directly to a page by typing the page number in the URL. The Front cover is page "00b" preface page "i" is page "00c" through "iv" page 00f" then into page "001" etc...The back cover is page "00a" (don't ask why its first, it just is).

DO NOT WRITE IN THIS BOOK

Well, I did. These pages were scanned from a copy of CTO3&2 that several of us in Edzell used to study for First Class. We had a great little study group going and after any advancement exam we would make notes in our books, We highlighted questions/answers likely to be on the next test so, these are the marks and notes you see. This copy of our Rate Training Manual helped Paddy McCarthy, Doug Ferrell, Larry Lam, "Skeets" England and Ken Spranza make First Class off the same exam cycle in June 1976. Chapter Six "Satellite Communications" provided by CTO1 Lowell "Barney" Barnard.

Added: Chapter six of the 1975 Edition of CTO3&2 covers satellite communications which was absent from the previous version.

Chapter Six has been added to NavyCT.com for your review
